Total Solar Eclipse: 22July2009
Moon's Shadow on Earth
What a great sight it was! Nature is amazing!
The closest I came to seeing a Solar eclipse was in the year 1980 at Chennai. Was it on 16th February? It was, I think, a 90% eclipse and I watched it from my aunt's house at Dooming Kuppam. The local TV station had telecast a movie 'Ooty varai Uravu' during the time.
The sky became like evening around sunset time, during the eclipse in the afternoon. Birds started flying all over. We had set up a pin hole camera to catch the eclipse, based on the directions from "Science today' magazine. I think the result was quite good. A small sun's image on the cardboard got eclipsed gradually.
The images (courtesy Times of India) added here are the ones taken at Varanasi, India (and the photo from space was from CNN). People gathered there were lucky indeed to see a clear full eclipse for more than 3 minutes. Unfortunately, 2 people died in a stampede there.

Finally today, I managed to start building my home on the web....I used to have a webpage created by me in Geocities, that I last visited about 10 years ago. I used to learn and use the various html commands to make the page layout, insert images, add links to other sites, etc., but things have changed tremendously now. One needs to know just typing and ofcourse also know how to express thoughts sensible enough for others to understand.
